EX-VOTO Coffee Cups Totem
An ex-voto is a votive offering to a saint or a divinity, given in fulfilment of a vow or in gratitude or devotion. In this case our EX-VOTO is a coffee totem, a tower of stackable cups turning into a votive item to the coffee ritual as a slow, mindful and conscious moment.
EX-VOTO • Coffee Cups Totem is the result of a special collaboration between Rotterdam based ceramicists and designers Giulia Cosenza and Sari Rikken. The duo decided to join forces in order to create a special product which combines Giulia’s artistic eye on everyday objects as totemic items, together with Sari’s experience in tableware and conscious living.
Sold as a set of 4 stackable coffee cups, this totem is meant to be an art piece in your home, as well as a set of beautiful cups for your daily coffee rituals.

MORE ABOUT US
Giulia Cosenza is a designer and ceramicist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Under the name Domestic Totems she transforms objects of daily use into beautifully designed artworks, items of use yet with a sculptural presence. Her ceramic work ranges from wheel thrown pottery to hand built pieces and draws inspiration from the familiar, the functional and the domestic, while challenging it all with hybrid pieces which can be situated between functional and symbolic, the material and the metaphorical. Giulia’s goal is to create sculptural pieces which accompany and celebrate daily rituals. Being it flowers or your first coffee in the morning, the idea of domestic totems arises from her interest in creating one of a kind everyday sculptures.
Sari Rikken is a designer, florist and ceramicist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. With a strong focus on sustainability, consumerism in modern society, and functionality, Sari applies her professions to create ceramics that reveal new ways to consume more consciously. She is fascinated by nature, human behavior, and the psychology of consumerism in modern society. By choosing quality and timeless design, Sari aims to encourage sustainable, ethical, and conscious consumption. All her pieces are handmade with eye for detail and quality. Her tableware collection focuses on organic shapes designed for healthy portion control, while her modular vase encourages new ways to arrange flowers.
While the concept and idea behind this project have been long in the making in Giulia's head, it is thanks to Sari's hands that this project is materialised. Production is entirely carried out by Sari: each piece is slip-casted using reclaimed stoneware clay.
